Prescriptive Authority in Indiana

According to the Indiana Title 25 Article 23 Professions and Occupations – Nurses, advanced practice registered nurses may apply for prescriptive authority for Schedule II-V controlled substances in collaboration with a physician, unless expressly prohibited by their agreement, and with the exception of controlled substances for weight management. Prescriptive authority costs $50.

Advanced Practice Nursing (APRN) in Indiana

APRNs in Indiana include nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, clinical nurse specialists, and certified registered nurse anesthetists.

Education: Graduate degree in nursing, or a bachelor’s degree in nursing together with national certification, at least two semester hours in pharmacology.

Renewal: Advanced practice nurses must renew their registered nurse (RN) license prior to renewing advanced practice nurse licensure. The cost is $50 plus the cost of R.N. license renewal. APRNs are required to obtain at least 30 hours of continuing education units (CEUs), eight of which must be in pharmacology. If renewing prescriptive authority, applicants must submit proof of completed CEUs at the time of renewal.
